story of the hamster ball --- by M

A couple of years ago I was taking care of a friend’s hamster for a few days and was told that he liked to run around in his little hamster ball for a large part of the day. Therefore, I put the little guy in his ball and let him loose in the downstairs portion of our home. I went upstairs to do some computer work and could hear the ball occasionally hit a wall or the marble step-up in the entry. After a little while, it occurred to me that this was not just an occasional hitting against a barrier, but something was a miss. As I came down the stairs, I saw Jesse standing with the hamster ball in his mouth. His tail wagging excitedly, his eyes saying….”OMG what a great new toy you got me….” then dropped the ball and gave it a push with his nose, chasing after the rolling hamster.

Loosing my cool for my stupidity of forgetting that Jesse might be in the house when the hamster was in the ball, I screeched to “LEAVE IT!”

When I retrieved the hamster, he was a bit offended, but all right. The little guy survived his ordeal as a “toy” but I know he will forever hate Jesse and me.  When my neighbor returned, I told her what happened, just incase there was some residual problem, and she told me they’ve had the same thing happen more than a couple of times, but with their cats.

That tough little hamster is still rolling around to this day.

older sisters....ugh

did I mention that..."we".... have a cat? her name is Tiera.... but she goes by many names.... mine is
Tiera the Terrrrrrrrible. She thinks what's mine, is really hers. (that happens to be MY cookie place and MY bones) At only 9 lbs, I'll admit, she puts me in my place, but you should hear her hiss and's scary.
Secretly, I get my comeuppance and give her a good scare back with a surprise ponce when M isn't looking, ha!

It is still raining today, so all we did was a couple of  'road trips'; too wet to do any Bunny hunting.

I did get everyone up at midnight last night with a long slow 'howl' to the "yoties", who were having a small party in the canyon near my house. They carried on, not the usual found something woofs, this was serious business and I just had to let them know I was around to help if they needed.  I heard M & S still talking about it this evening. hehe~~

great day-- geocaching

We had a great day. M slept in...actually she didn't get to bed until morning, working on her stuff, so S had a day off from his exercise walk. That left me to convince M when she got up that we needed to do some "Geocaching".
What's that you say?
Geocaching is an increasingly popular, inclusive, fun and healthy pastime for individuals of all ages all over the world. The sport combines technology with adventure, a combination that some people didn't think was possible. The core of the sport consists of using a hand held GPS receiver unit to guide you to a destination, where a hidden container (or "cache") is stored. Once found, you log your visit in an included logbook, and optionally trade one of the many contained "goodies" for one of your own, or not. Its a modern day treasure hunt. You would be suprised what treasures are even in your own neighborhood. For more info..visit

We found 3 treasure caches!!! (no bunnies though, think the "yoties" (coyotes) chased them out of the canyon before we got there. M got a new GPS unit that works great. Here is a pic of me on the lookout for "Muggles" those are non-geocachers.

bunnies are back!!!

good morning everyone. One of my main jobs is to get M & S out of bed in the morning (at the wee hours of 4:30 am) for their exercise/walk.  I am their personal trainer!
I also have a second early morning job...and that is to chase the "bunnies" out of people's yard- it's a neighborhood save the grass program I am leading. We count the success of every bunny-hunt-walk with how many bunnies and... how many poops I can get in during the walk. It has been a while since we have seen any bunnies-- just shows you how good I am! but this morning..right up our very own street was my first for the morning. In the future I will log my successes thusly:

12/14/10 5:00am

4 bunnies and a poop!   that is a very good morning.

"busted... by my butt"

M usually gives me a treat in the mornings as she is leaving for work. Kind of saying “thank you” for guarding the house while everyone is away…or just to get me excited about her leaving me all alone all day long…not sure which, but if a treat is involved…I am all for it! I’ll let M tell the story, take it away , M.

When I was getting ready to leave I went over to where I thought I had put out Jesse’s treat for the day and couldn’t see it anywhere. I am sometimes a little scattered and thought that I may have forgotten to get it out of the cabinet. So, I grabbed another special cookie and removed the wrapper, a sticky label, as Jesse impatiently waited.  I held it out and he immediately grabbed the cookie, turned away and trotted over to his “cookie blanket”. I gasped , when he turned, there stuck on his butt was the missing treat's wrapper, as plain as day. It shouted at me “got a second cookie, ha! ha! ha!”  (obviously he had stolen the first one off the counter- which he didn't even need to strain to do--Berners are big!)

EGADS!!! every teenager
in every species has to have
 that...that...."gawky" stage.

I show mine....

 oh the HORROR!
